Holland Public Library
Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes for April 16, 2015
Members present: Peggy Lowell, Janet Mullins, Lynn Harhay; Jessi McCarthy, Director
The Chairman called the meeting to order at 4:07PM
Old Business
- The Board voted 3-0 to table the agenda for the purpose of hearing a talk from Laura Stara of the MBLC regarding the building process.
New Business
- Laura Stara of the MBLC is their building specialist. She discussed with the Board the process for researching the feasibility of a building project in Holland. Using the grant that the Library currently has, the steps would be to:
1. Hire a consultant or have the Board determine the community’s needs by getting input from residents; Fall of 2016 would be the target date for having the assessment done as new construction grants start in January of 2017.
2. Form a building committee that would keep tabs on the process, visit other libraries and report to the Board; candidates for this committee could be a contractor, retired architect and someone with a financial background.
3. Visit other libraries that have recently been through this process.
- There are information sessions on the new grant round in nearby communities or on the Web.
- Other information to keep in mind: the project manager and architect are hired in the design phase; the location of the new building cannot be changed once it is determined.
- It was determined that Board members will review the website before the next meeting.
- Vouchers were signed for salaries, Baker and Taylor, Mike’s Cleaning, Cengage, Demco and Verizon.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:10PM
Next meeting: May 21, 2015
